Commission Process and Policies
Before we dive in, here’s a quick look at how we’ll co‑create your stained glass piece together. Every step happens through email — simple, personal, and unrushed — so we can keep all your ideas, sketches, and inspiration in one place. Think of it as an easy back‑and‑forth conversation where your vision leads and I help shape it into something beautiful and lasting.
1. Communication and Project Planning
All commission communication is handled exclusively through email. This ensures that measurements, photos, design notes, and approvals are clearly documented for accuracy and future reference.
During the initial discussion, clients may provide:
measurements
photos of the space
design requests
inspiration images
budget considerations
These details help shape the direction of the project and allow for an accurate estimate.
2. Design Deposit and First Sketch
To begin the design phase, a $100 non‑refundable deposit is required. This deposit covers the time and work involved in creating the first sketch and will be applied toward the final cost of the commission.
Once the first sketch is complete, it will be emailed to the client for review. At this stage, we will go over any final details or adjustments needed.
3. Design Approval and Project Payment
If the client is satisfied with the design, the full project amount (minus the $100 deposit) is due before fabrication begins.
Payment at this stage secures materials, scheduling, shipping (including shipping insurance) will all be included and an itemized receipt will be emailed to you.
4. Fabrication Timeline
Project timelines vary depending on the size and complexity of the piece.
Typical timelines:
Small suncatcher‑style commissions: 2–3 weeks
Large architectural panels: up to 10 weeks
A more precise timeline will be provided once the design is finalized.
5. Shipping and Crating
All shipping costs are included in the final project price. These costs are not billed separately.
For large architectural pieces:
the artwork will be shipped in a custom‑built wooden crate
the shipment will be fully insured
packaging is designed to ensure safe transport and delivery
Smaller pieces will be packaged securely with appropriate protective materials.
6. Completion and Delivery
Once fabrication is complete and the piece has been packed, it will be shipped to the client using insured, trackable shipping. Clients will receive tracking information and any relevant installation guidance.
7. Final Notes
Each commission is handcrafted with care, precision, and attention to detail. The process is designed to ensure clarity, protect the integrity of the artwork, and create a smooth, enjoyable experience from first sketch to final delivery.
